WHY PREVENTATIVE DENTISTRY MATTERS

Preventative dentistry is the cornerstone of maintaining great teeth for life. It's founded on proactive measures that prevent common oral health issues before they become major problems, saving you both time and money in the long run. Thanks to regularly scheduled dental check-ups and early intervention strategies, you can prevent most dental concerns or treat them earlier when they’re less invasive and more affordable to care for.

Comprehensive Cleanings & Exams

Preventative dental cleanings and regular examinations are the foundation of preventive dentistry. Our experienced dental hygienists will gently and thoroughly clean your teeth, removing built-up plaque and tartar that cause cavities and gum disease. These cleanings not only keep your teeth looking and feeling great but also help prevent potential issues from developing or reverse them during their earliest stages of development.

During your exam, Dr. Kandare will carefully assess your oral health. Early detection is key to addressing issues such as gum disease or oral cancer. By identifying these issues early, we can provide the most effective and least invasive treatments.

Digitally Advanced X-Rays

We prioritize using the latest technology to ensure the highest quality care for our patients. Our advanced digital X-ray imaging software allows us to see beyond the surface of your teeth, identifying any hidden problems that may not be visible during a routine exam. This means we can catch potential issues before they cause discomfort or require more extensive treatments.

Thanks to instant imaging, we can easily share our findings with you and discuss them together, co-planning your oral health journey.

Soft Tissue Diode Laser

“Laser” stands for light amplification by the stimulated emission of radiation. A dental laser is a device that uses light energy and can be tuned to different intensities based on the condition and the type of treatment the patient needs.

Laser therapy has been shown to be effective in treating both gingivitis and periodontitis because it can treat targeted tissue while leaving surrounding tissue unaffected. Laser therapy will help to speed up the healing process after scaling and root planning and also will help clean up the gum tissue and assist the body to exfoliate the diseased tissue.

How are lasers used to treat gum disease?

Laser light energy heats the affected gum tissue. Using a special handheld device, a small amount of laser light energy heats the affected gum tissue to treat the conditions that are of concern to each patient. The device uses disposable tips to help prevent cross contamination, the patient, the dentist and/or hygienist will wear special glasses to protect the eyes from scattered light waves.

The laser distinguishes between diseased and healthy tissue by color. The light in the laser is attracted to darker pigmentation (melanin), which is identified in diseased tissue by the unnaturally blood-filled features in periodontal disease and other oral conditions.

For periodontal disease treatment, the clinician uses the laser to vaporize unhealthy gum tissue and cauterize the incision at the same time. This translates to no bleeding, no sutures, mild irritation at the most, no down-time and accelerated healing, faster recovery, and excellent patient experience.

While laser is often used for the management of gum disease, there are many other conditions that have benefited from laser technology.

Some hygiene procedures performed with dental lasers:

  • Lesion treatments:

    •  Canker sores or aphthous ulcers can be treated to resolve more quickly with less pain.
    •  Herpes labialis (cold sores) can subside faster with laser treatment, reducing the days of potentially painful and embarrassing lip sores.
  • Root surface desensitization:

Hot and cold stimuli can travel down the tubules, triggering the nerve and causing pain. Laser root desensitization is an efficient

tool for the immediate treatment of tooth hypersensitivity. It works by targeting

the tubules and sealing them off, eliminating access to the nerve.

  • Laser Bacterial Reduction

Laser Bacterial Reduction also known as LBR, is a common procedure that is done during routine cleanings. A non-cutting laser is aimed directly into the gingival pockets that form around the teeth. The laser kills any bacteria in this area, preventing the spread and progression of gum disease.

  • Laser Assisted Periodontal Therapy (LAPT)

Laser Assisted Periodontal Therapy (LAPT) or laser decontamination (LD) safely removes diseased tissues in your gum pockets’ linings without damaging the healthy ones around it so patients can get better reattachment. Also, it helps to increase collagen production and cleans away any remaining soft biofilm or calcified bacterial deposit, which contributes to gum infections.
